Authentic Muay Thai for adults who want real results
Muay Thai is the national sport of Thailand, and it is known as the art of eight limbs because it uses fists, elbows, knees and shins. At Manifest MMA, our adult Muay Thai program in La Habra teaches that full toolkit in a supportive room where nobody is expected to know anything on day one.
You will learn a proper stance, how to throw the jab and cross, how to kick with your shin instead of your foot, and how to defend with your guard and footwork. As you progress, you add knees, elbows and clinch work. Each skill is broken into small pieces, drilled on pads with a partner or coach, then pushed into timed bag rounds so you feel the work in your lungs.
The result is a class that works like a high-end workout and teaches a real martial art at the same time. Students of every fitness level build strength, learn useful striking skills and walk out feeling like they accomplished something.
Our Muay Thai coaches include Isaac, Tony and Obed, who bring fight experience and a patient, encouraging style to every session. You can meet them on our coaches page.
Why train Muay Thai
Eight benefits of Muay Thai and kickboxing for adults
- 01
Cardiovascular fitness
Rounds of punches, kicks and knees keep your heart rate up and build real endurance over time.
- 02
A full-body workout
Arms, legs, core and back all work together, so every class trains the whole body.
- 03
Strength training
Pad and bag resistance, plus bodyweight conditioning, build lean strength you can feel.
- 04
Flexibility
Kicks demand hip and leg range of motion, and your mobility improves with regular practice.
- 05
Stress relief
A hard class is a great way to release tension and clear your head after a long day.
- 06
Coordination and balance
Combinations, defense and footwork sharpen how you move, in the gym and outside it.
- 07
Self-defense skills
Striking basics, distance control and awareness give you tools that carry over to real life.
- 08
Variety that keeps you coming back
No two weeks feel the same, which makes it easier to stay consistent.
What a class looks like
A typical Muay Thai class at Manifest MMA
Warm up
Jump rope, shadow boxing and mobility drills get your body ready and your mind on the mat.
Learn the technique
A coach demonstrates a strike or combination, explains why it works and walks the room to correct form.
Pad and bag rounds
Partner pad work and timed bag rounds turn the technique into speed, power and rhythm.
Condition and cool down
Core, bodyweight and stretching finish the session so you recover well and feel strong.
Class structure varies by coach and by day. Check the class schedule for times, or call (562) 554-6585 to ask which session suits a beginner.
New to Muay Thai
Muay Thai for beginners: what to know before your first class
Do I need to be in shape?
No. You do not need to be fit before you start. Getting in shape is what the classes are for. Move at your own pace, take breaks when you need them and let your coach adjust the work.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable athletic clothes you can move in, such as shorts or leggings and a t-shirt. Shoes stay off the mat. Bring water and arrive about 15 minutes early so a coach can get you settled.
Do I need my own gear for the free trial?
No. You can train your trial week without buying anything. If you decide to continue, your coach will point you to gloves and shin guards that fit your budget and your goals.
Will I have to spar?
Technique and fitness are the heart of class. Any partner work is matched to your experience, supervised and built around safety. Tell your coach what you want from training and they will guide the pace.
How often should I train?
Two to three sessions a week is a strong starting point for most adults. The CDC recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate activity weekly plus muscle-strengthening work on two days, and Muay Thai covers both.
Check your fitness level and any health conditions before you start a new sport. If you have concerns, talk with a healthcare professional first.
