MAT ETIQUETTE
NO SHOES ON THE MAT
PERSONAL HYGIENE
KEEP YOURSELF AND YOUR GI OR CLOTHES CLEAN
- Wearing a Gi is mandatory for jiu jitsu gi class. On No Gi day, wear a rashguard or shirt and gi pants or shorts.
- It is essential to maintain cleanliness when stepping on the mat. Please arrive to class showered with trimmed finger and toe nails.
- If possible, brush your teeth before each class or use mouthwash.
- Undergarments are required.
- All jewelry must be removed.
- Cover all wounds and fresh tattoos throughout training. If not possible, refrain from training until healed.
ALWAYS RESPECT EVERYONE ON THE MAT
- Prior to rolling, partners follow the tradition of hand slapping and fist bumping. Ensure space awareness when rolling and give way when higher belts are in close proximity.
- We have diverse training dynamics, including partners like life partners, spouses, and teen children in our adult classes. Safety is our priority, so be mindful of differences in age, gender, and size. Matching partner intensity enhances the benefits of each roll.
- Respectful language is a must when communicating with other students, with strict adherence to our zero-tolerance policy against violence and inappropriate behavior. Remember, the main goal at our gym is to learn and practice MMA.
KEEP TALKING TO A MINIMUM DURING INSTRUCTIONS
- During instructor demonstrations, maintain silence.
- Our goal is for you to focus solely on learning, training, and improving in Jiu Jitsu or Muay Thai during the time you spend on the mat.
STICK TO THE TECHNIQUES THAT THE COACH HAS SHOWN
- Going off-script during technique practice or coaching others during drills is considered an MMA etiquette violation.
- Respect the instructor/coach’s role and guidance during practice sessions.
RESPECT THE TAP AND BE HUMBLE IN VICTORY
- Train Hard and Win Easy during competitions.
